DAY 1 CAIRNS – CHILLAGOE (LD) After an early morning pick-up from your accommodation, your holiday begins, boarding the Savannahlander for a historic journey to Almaden. On arrival you will be met by your guide, who will take you for an informative tour of Chillagoe, where we explore one of the impressive Limestone Caves.Overnight camp at Chillagoe Eco Lodge & Campground. DAY 2 CHILLAGOE - COBBOLD GORGE (BLD) This morning you re-board the Savannahlander at Almaden to continue your train journey to Mt. Surprise, before disembarking the Savannahlander at Forsayth. You travel on to Cobbold Gorge, our campsite for the next 2 nights.
DAY 3 COBBOLD GORGE (BLD) We start the day with an informative tour of Cobbold Gorge with a Savannah Guide. A boat cruise allows us to experience the uniqueness of this gorge. After lunch at the gorge, we climb the majestic sandstone cliffs for a spectacular view of the gorge from above.DAY 4 COBBOLD GORGE - KARUMBA (BLD) Travelling west, we pass through the old gold towns of Georgetown, before arriving in Croydon, where you will discover the history of the town on a guided walking tour with a Savannah Guide. Travelling on through Normanton to arrive at Karumba. This evening finds us wining and dining on the beach as we watch the splendid sunset over the Gulf of Carpentaria. Overnight accommodation at the Karumba Lodge. (ensuite facilities) DAY 5 KARUMBA - LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK (BLD) An early start provides excellent opportunities to see the wildlife of the Gulf Savannah. Across the “Plains of Promise”, stopping off at Burke and Wills' most northern campsite #119, Leichhardt Falls, and Burketown before arriving at Adel's Grove, on the edge of Lawn Hill National Park, where we stay for the next two nights.DAY 6 LAWN HILL (BLD) A day to relax in the clear waterways of Lawn Hill Gorge with plenty of opportunity for canoeing (own expense) and bush walking to view the gorge sandstone formations. Lawn Hill is an oasis in this Gulf Wilderness, a haven for bird life. It will leave you captivated by its beauty and tranquillity. Overnight at Adel's Grove.DAY 7 LAWN HILL – RIVERSLEIGH FOSSIL FIELDS - NORMANTON (BLD) We visit Riversleigh Fossil Fields, which is considered one of the world's richest fossil deposits, dating back some 15 million years. After exploring these treasures, we make our way to Normanton. Camp tonight at Gulfland Motel & Caravan Park.DAY 8 NORMANTON – CROYDON - UNDARA (BLD) This morning we board the Gulflander train for another historic journey to Blackbull. After lunch we make our way to our overnight accommodation & campsite at Undara.
DAY 9 UNDARA - CAIRNS (BL) After breakfast, an experienced Savannah Guide will meet you for an informative tour of the world's largest, longest and most accessible lava tube system. We continue on our scenic and leisurely drive over the Tropical Tablelands past the Wind Turbines at Ravenshoe, stopping off at the magnificent Curtain Fig Tree, historic Yungaburra, the Volcanic Crater Lake Barrine and Mt Hypipamee, before making our way back to Cairns, where you will be taken to your accommodation.
