HIGHLIGHTS:
DAY 1 SYDNEY - DUBBO (LD) Departing Sydney, picking up in the Central Coast and Newcastle. Continuing through the Hunter Valley to arrive at our accommodation in Dubbo, the Blue Lagoon Motor Inn, where we spend our first night together. DAY 2 DUBBO - WHITE CLIFFS (BLD) Traveling through Nyngan, Cobar and Wilcannia, to arrive at the unique opal town of White Cliffs, known for its underground homes. Exploring the unique attractions in the area, before settling into our Underground Accommodation, Underground Dug-Out Motel.
DAY 3 WHITE CLIFFS - BROKEN HILL (BLD) An informative town tour this morning with a local guide. Visit an underground opal show room and home to experience the lifestyles of the locals, before travelling on to Broken Hill. Late afternoon we explore the ghost town of Silverton, before a refreshing drink at the Silverton Pub, famous for the memorabilia of the films, shot here, like "Mad Max" and "A Town Like Alice".
DAY 4 BROKEN HILL - TIBOOBURRA (BLD) Tour around Broken Hill, the "Silver City", including the BHP Delprats Mine, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. After lunch, we head along the Silver City Highway to the small town of Tibooburra, which first came alive in the 1800s when gold was first discovered in the area.
DAY 5 TIBOOBURRA - CAMERON'S CORNER - INNAMINCKA (BLD) Travelling through "Sturt National Park" to Cameron's Corner. Here it is possible to stand in QLD, NSW, and SA at the same time. This area is home to the longest fence in the world – The Dingo fence. West across the red sand dunes, past Merty Merty, towards the Stzelecki Track, past Moomba Gasfields, before arriving in Innamincka, on the banks of Coopers Creek. Before sunset, enjoy a relaxing Coopers Creek cruise, a haven for birdlife. DAY 6 INNAMINCKA - BIRDSVILLE (BLD) An early start today, as we make our way to the famous outback town of Birdsville. Visit Cordillo Downs Station, and Australia's largest shearing shed. Travelling through this isolated country, stopping off at the ruins of Cadelga Station. Finally arriving at the famous "Birdsville Pub" at Beer O'clock, our accommodation for the next 2 nights. DAY 7 BIRDSVILLE (BLD) A leisurely day today! Today we explore the sights of Birdsville and venture into the Simpson Desert, characterized by the majestic Red Sand Dunes, most famous and photographed, being "Big Red". Visit John & Judy's local museum. DAY 8 BIRDSVILLE - BOULIA (BLD) Sit back for a relaxing journey this morning as we travel on to Boulia, the Capital of the Channel Country. Boulia is situated of the Burke River and is famous for the Mysterious Min Min Lights. DAY 9 BOULIA - MT. ISA (BLD) Heading North to Mt Isa, one of the world's largest silver mines operation. The afternoon is free; you may wish to take an interesting tour of one the underground mines, or just sit back and relax.
DAY 10 MT. ISA - LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK (BLD) Travelling on the Barkley Highway, before we head off road to visit Riversleigh Fossil Fields, which is considered one of the world's richest fossil deposits, dating back some 15 million years. After exploring these treasures, we make our way to Adel's Grove, on the edge of Lawn Hill National Park, our accommodation for the next two nights. (Tent accommodation)
DAY 11 LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK (BLD) A day to relax in the clear waterways of Lawn Hill Gorge with plenty of opportunity for canoeing (own expense) and bush walking to view the gorge sandstone formations. Lawn Hill is an oasis in this Gulf Wilderness, a haven for bird life. It will leave you captivated by its beauty and tranquillity.
DAY 12 LAWN HILL NATIONAL PARK - HELL'S GATE (BLD) Another great day as we travel along the outback station tracks, as we head on to Hell's Gate Road House, our accommodation for tonight.
DAY 13 HELL'S GATE - CAPE CRAWFORD (BLD) Heading west we leave Queensland behind and cross into the Northern Territory. Stopping off at Woologorang cattle station and Borroloola before arriving at Cape Crawford and the Heartbreak Hotel.
DAY 14 CAPE CRAWFORD - MATARANKA (BLD) This morning you have the option to take a helicopter flight (own expense) and join us on a guided walk through the ancient sandstone karsts of the mysterious "Lost City", then onto Daly Waters, Elsey Cemetery (we of the never never) and Mataranka Hot Springs, where we can enjoy a relaxing swim in the crystal clear thermal pool.
DAY 15 MATARANKA - KATHERINE (BLD) Today, we travel on to Katherine. The afternoon you have the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable cruise on Katherine Gorge.
DAY 16 KATHERINE - KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (BLD) Today enjoy an unforgettable cruise (optional) on Katherine Gorge. Then continue on past Pine Creek and into Kakadu National Park for a swim in Maguk (Barramundi Gorge). Then on to Jabiru for the next 2 to nights.
DAY 17 KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (BLD) This morning we visit Nourlangie Rock and the Bowali Visitor Centre. Take a scenic flight over Kakadu National Park (own expense). Enjoy a fascinating Sunset Cruise on the Yellow Waters Billabong, a haven to the many birds, animals, and the saltwater crocodiles.
DAY 18 KAKADU - DARWIN (BL) Visit Ubirr, to view the dreamtime legends depicted in its galleries of rock art and the spectacular scenery over the East Alligator River flood plains Traveling north to Darwin, brings an end to your adventure. Tonight we stay at the Mirambeena Resort Darwin.
DAY 19 DARWIN (B) The final day has unfortunately arrived. After breakfast, we bid farewell to our new made friends.
